Topics Covered in the Fall 2011 Homeschool Course on Hebrew Roots.

1. Why Hebrew Roots - 9-28-11. Origins of the term Hebrew and Jewish. Genealogy. Early versions of the Bible. Ancient Jewish texts. New Testament vs. Other Books. Apocrypha. Hebrew Resources Timeline. Josephus.

2. The Patriarchs -10-5-11. The Hebrew Patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Comparing traditional Christian views with traditional Jewish views of these originators of our faith tradition.

3. God's Covenants with Adam & Noah - 10-12-11. Christians recognize a "Covenant" was made between God and Adam, while Jewish tradition does not hold this view. In addition to the Biblical covenant with Noah, Jewish oral tradition also maintains that God established the "Noachite Laws" for Gentiles.

4. God's Covenant with Abraham - 10-19-11. God sovereignly covenanted with Abraham to bring him to the Promised Land, and that his descendants would be as numerous as stars and his Seed would bless the whole world. This covenant was likewise passed sovereignly on to Isaac and Jacob before Jacob divided it between Judah and Joseph's sons. As Christians, we recognize Yeshua/Jesus as Abraham's promised Seed.

5. Jacob and His 12 Sons - 11-1-11. As he neared death, a nearly blind Jacob blessed his sons, passing over the natural birth order to divide the Firstborn Blessings between his nearly adopted sons, Ephraim and Mannasseh, while prophesying various destinies for his natural sons.

6. God's Covenant with Moses: Betrothal at Sinai - 11-9-11. What Christians think of primarily as the "Law of Moses", to Jews is the "Betrothal at Sinai", where God prophessed His love for His Chosen people. Understanding traditional Hebrew marriage customs sheds remarkable light on the betrothal of Yeshua to the Bride of Messiah (Christ).

7. God's Covenant with Moses: Events at Mt. Sinai - 12-7-11. Explores what happened at Mt. Sinai, how the Israelites actually "heard" and "saw" God, the Gold Calf incident from a Jewish perspective, and the calendar of days spent at Sinai. Here we see the Creator intervening in history to bring forth transformation of the Israelites and blessing for the whole world.
